How far is Mostar from Dubrovnik?
Mostar is roughly 140 km from Dubrovnik by the coastal-and-inland route. Door to door it's about 2.5 to 3 hours each way depending on traffic, the season and how long the border crossing takes on the day. That's very manageable as a day trip — most travelers leave Dubrovnik in the early morning and are back by early evening.
The route: what you actually pass
From Dubrovnik you head north along the Adriatic, briefly leaving Croatia at the short Neum coastal corridor before turning inland toward the Neretva valley. The scenery shifts from turquoise sea to river gorges and vineyards. Most tours make a coffee stop in Neum and visit the Kravice Waterfalls and the stone town of Počitelj before reaching Mostar itself.

Yes — it's the standard, and it works well if you start early. A typical day gives you around 1.5 hours at Kravice and 2.5–3 hours in Mostar, plus the Počitelj and Neum stops. The key is an early departure and a small group that isn't waiting on 40 other people at every stop.
Border tip: you NEED a valid passport — the trip crosses into Bosnia and Herzegovina. Bring it; you cannot cross without it.
Tour, bus or rental car?
All three work, and the honest answer depends on you. A rental car gives total freedom but you handle the border, parking and navigation. A public bus is cheapest but slow and inflexible, with no Kravice or Počitelj.
